SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Gerald "Jerry" E. Sewell, who passed away on November 8, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Sewell was born in Alton on July 8, 1933, to George and Celestine (Noblitt) Sewell; he married Margie Crayne in September of 1955 and, following her death, Nancy Massar in September of 2004; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Sewell served his country in the U.S. Army and was an active member of VFW Post 1308 in Alton; he was also a scoutmaster and a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ, the Alton Municipal Band, the Bunker Hill Kiwanis Club, Shriner's International-York Rite Bodies, Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 25 AF & AM, the Alton Area Antique Association, and the Alton Salvation Army; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Sewell was preceded in death by his parents, George and Celestine Sewell; his first wife, Margie Crayne; and his brother, George W. Sewell; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Sewell is survived by his second wife, Nancy Massar; his son, William "Bill" (Dionne) Sewell; his sister, Sandy Strohmeier; his brother-in-law, Ray (Julie) Massar; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gerald Sewell, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gerald Sewell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
