SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dana J. "Double D" Davis of Peoria, who passed away on October 3, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Dana Davis was born on September 25, 1956, in Peoria to Shirley "Jean" (Meischner) Davis and William "Mecie" Davis; he graduated from Manual High School and Bradley University; and

WHEREAS, Dana Davis was afforded great career opportunities which included, Vice President of Basketball Operations Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies, tour manager for funk legend, Bootsy Collins, Peoria District 150 basketball coach at Manuel High School and football coach at Woodruff High School, IHSA basketball/baseball official, Wildmer Office Supply, and GR Becker Companies; and

WHEREAS, Dana Davis was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Commemorative Service Award and was an inductee of the Peoria African American Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Dana Davis was the founder of the Mitchell "JJ" Anderson All Star Basketball Camp, member of the Bradley B Club board of directors, member of the Peoria Tri-County Urban League board of directors, Peoria Boys and Girls Clubs, and board member of the Peoria County Board; he was on the board of directors of the National Civil Rights Museum; and

WHEREAS, Dana Davis was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Dana Davis was preceded in death by his parents, William and Shirley Davis; and

WHEREAS, Dana Davis is survived by his family, Virginia Alexander, James Watson, John (Renada) Davis Fitzgerald, Juanita Sherry Mason, Marie Taylor, Alphonso Alexander Jr., and Jo Ann (Manzell) Alexander-Lawson; his friends, Graylin McLeod, Bobby Humbles, Mitchell "JJ" Anderson, and Wayne McClain; and a host of other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dana Davis, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dana Davis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
