SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Dana J. "Double D" Davis of
4Peoria, who passed away on October 3, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dana Davis was born on September 25, 1956, in
6Peoria to Shirley "Jean" (Meischner) Davis and William "Mecie"
7Davis; he graduated from Manual High School and Bradley
8University; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dana Davis was afforded great career
10opportunities which included, Vice President of Basketball
11Operations Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies, tour manager for funk
12legend, Bootsy Collins, Peoria District 150 basketball coach at
13Manuel High School and football coach at Woodruff High School,
14IHSA basketball/baseball official, Wildmer Office Supply, and
15GR Becker Companies; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dana Davis was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King
17Jr., Commemorative Service Award and was an inductee of the
18Peoria African American Hall of Fame; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dana Davis was the founder of the Mitchell "JJ"
20Anderson All Star Basketball Camp, member of the Bradley B Club
21board of directors, member of the Peoria Tri-County Urban

1League board of directors, Peoria Boys and Girls Clubs, and
2board member of the Peoria County Board; he was on the board of
3directors of the National Civil Rights Museum; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dana Davis was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church
5in Peoria; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dana Davis was preceded in death by his parents,
7William and Shirley Davis; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dana Davis is survived by his family, Virginia
9Alexander, James Watson, John (Renada) Davis Fitzgerald,
10Juanita Sherry Mason, Marie Taylor, Alphonso Alexander Jr., and
11Jo Ann (Manzell) Alexander-Lawson; his friends, Graylin
12McLeod, Bobby Humbles, Mitchell "JJ" Anderson, and Wayne
13McClain; and a host of other relatives and friends; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Dana Davis, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Dana Davis as an expression of our
