SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Donald M. Lies of Aurora, who passed away on June 30, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Donald Lies was born on January 1, 1922, in Aurora; he graduated from Marmion Military Academy in 1939 and the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1944; he served in the United States Air Force during World War II; he was married to his wife, Helen, for 67 years; and

WHEREAS, Donald Lies practiced general dentistry in the Aurora area for 60 years until his retirement in 2005; he was one of the founders of the Aurora Dental Arts Building; and

WHEREAS, Donald Lies was a devoted member of Holy Angels church for 60 years; he was a member of the American Legion, the American Dental Association, the Aurora and Fox Valley Dental Society, and the Snow Drifter Ski Club; and

WHEREAS, Donald Lies loved the arts, especially music; he was a member of the American Legion Bands in both Aurora and Yorkville, the Blue Moon Band, and the Waubonsee Dance Band; he loved gardening and enjoyed his Tuesday lunch group with his close friends for many years; he was very active, participating in 5K runs and playing tennis; he enjoyed traveling to dental conventions around the United States, visiting Florida beaches, and going on family camping trips to Minoqua, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Donald Lies is survived by his wife, Helen (Cornille) Lies; his children, Stephanie (Michael) Kartheiser, Kathy Kartheiser, Scott Lies, Laura (Craig) Anderson, Julie (John) Keilty, and David Lies; his sister, Marion Probst; his grandchildren, Eric, Paul, and Ryan Kartheiser, Beth and Jodi Kartheiser, Elizabeth Lies, Melissa Ehrhart, and Jack, Katrina, and Sam Keilty; his eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. Donald M. Lies, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
