SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Donald M. Lies of Aurora,
4who passed away on June 30, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Lies was born on January 1, 1922, in
6Aurora; he graduated from Marmion Military Academy in 1939 and
7the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1944; he
8served in the United States Air Force during World War II; he
9was married to his wife, Helen, for 67 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Donald Lies practiced general dentistry in the
11Aurora area for 60 years until his retirement in 2005; he was
12one of the founders of the Aurora Dental Arts Building; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Donald Lies was a devoted member of Holy Angels
14church for 60 years; he was a member of the American Legion,
15the American Dental Association, the Aurora and Fox Valley
16Dental Society, and the Snow Drifter Ski Club; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Donald Lies loved the arts, especially music; he
18was a member of the American Legion Bands in both Aurora and
19Yorkville, the Blue Moon Band, and the Waubonsee Dance Band; he
20loved gardening and enjoyed his Tuesday lunch group with his
21close friends for many years; he was very active, participating

1in 5K runs and playing tennis; he enjoyed traveling to dental
2conventions around the United States, visiting Florida
3beaches, and going on family camping trips to Minoqua,
4Wisconsin; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Lies is survived by his wife, Helen
6(Cornille) Lies; his children, Stephanie (Michael) Kartheiser,
7Kathy Kartheiser, Scott Lies, Laura (Craig) Anderson, Julie
8(John) Keilty, and David Lies; his sister, Marion Probst; his
9grandchildren, Eric, Paul, and Ryan Kartheiser, Beth and Jodi
10Kartheiser, Elizabeth Lies, Melissa Ehrhart, and Jack,
11Katrina, and Sam Keilty; his eight great-grandchildren; and
12several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Dr. Donald M. Lies, and we extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
20sympathy.
