SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Arthur "Art" Schultz of Joliet, who passed away on November 26, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz attended Joliet Catholic High School; he married Frances Jacksa on November 6, 1954, at the Cathedral of St. Raymond's in Joliet; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War, from 1950 to 1954; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was a lifetime Joliet resident and served the citizens of the City of Joliet for almost 50 years; he served as Joliet's Mayor for 20 years, from 1991 through May of 2011; he also served in the Joliet Police Department for 29 years, rising to the rank of lieutenant; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was a past President of the Joliet Police Officers Association; he was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #58, the Police Athletic League (PAL), the Joliet Police Benevolent Association, and the Joliet Police and Fire Board; he served as a Will County Sheriff's Deputy; he was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #1080 and a member of V.F.W. Cantigny Post #367, Moran AC, and Joliet Moose Lodge #300; he was a member of the Irving Athletic Club and an Honorary Life Member of the Old Timers Baseball Association of Will County; he was also a member of the Retired and Disabled Police of America, the Croatian Cultural Club of Joliet, the Joliet Arsenal Development Authority, and the Cathedral of St. Raymond's Parish; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was the recipient of the Joliet Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award for his almost 50 years of service and love for the City of Joliet; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Margaret (nee Byrne) Schultz, and his grandchildren, Jennifer and Sarah Voots and Arthur Schultz Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz is survived by his loving wife, Fran; his children, Debbie (Richard) Fonck, Nancy (Steve) Voots, Artie (Nancy) Schultz, Danny (Sue) Schultz, and Mike Schultz; his grandchildren, Rick and Rachel (Mike Johnston) Fonck, Max Voots, Brett and Maggie Schultz, and Samantha and Mark Schultz; and his sister, Clara Schultz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Arthur "Art" Schultz; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Arthur Schultz as an expression of our sympathy.
