SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Arthur "Art" Schultz of Joliet, who
4passed away on November 26, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz attended Joliet Catholic High
6School; he married Frances Jacksa on November 6, 1954, at the
7Cathedral of St. Raymond's in Joliet; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz proudly served his country as a
9member of the United States Navy during the Korean War, from
101950 to 1954; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was a lifetime Joliet resident and
12served the citizens of the City of Joliet for almost 50 years;
13he served as Joliet's Mayor for 20 years, from 1991 through May
14of 2011; he also served in the Joliet Police Department for 29
15years, rising to the rank of lieutenant; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was a past President of the Joliet
17Police Officers Association; he was a member of Fraternal Order
18of Police Lodge #58, the Police Athletic League (PAL), the
19Joliet Police Benevolent Association, and the Joliet Police and
20Fire Board; he served as a Will County Sheriff's Deputy; he was
21a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #1080

1and a member of V.F.W. Cantigny Post #367, Moran AC, and Joliet
2Moose Lodge #300; he was a member of the Irving Athletic Club
3and an Honorary Life Member of the Old Timers Baseball
4Association of Will County; he was also a member of the Retired
5and Disabled Police of America, the Croatian Cultural Club of
6Joliet, the Joliet Arsenal Development Authority, and the
7Cathedral of St. Raymond's Parish; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was the recipient of the Joliet
9Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award for his almost
1050 years of service and love for the City of Joliet; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz was preceded in death by his
12parents, Art and Margaret (nee Byrne) Schultz, and his
13grandchildren, Jennifer and Sarah Voots and Arthur Schultz Jr.;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Arthur Schultz is survived by his loving wife,
16Fran; his children, Debbie (Richard) Fonck, Nancy (Steve)
17Voots, Artie (Nancy) Schultz, Danny (Sue) Schultz, and Mike
18Schultz; his grandchildren, Rick and Rachel (Mike Johnston)
19Fonck, Max Voots, Brett and Maggie Schultz, and Samantha and
20Mark Schultz; and his sister, Clara Schultz; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with

1his family and friends, the passing of Arthur "Art" Schultz;
2and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Arthur Schultz as an expression of
5our sympathy.
