SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Corporal Cesar Velazquez, who passed away May 15, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez served his community as a consultant and a teacher prior to becoming a policeman; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez joined the Hainesville Police Department in July of 2008 after serving with the Skokie Police Department for over 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez was assigned to the Metropolitan Enforcement Group, (NEMEG) undercover narcotics unit for two years while serving in the Skokie Police Department, as well as serving as a detective, and then as the department's first DARE Officer; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez died in the line of duty just days before his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez leaves behind a wife and two children; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez dedicated and gave his life to protecting and serving the people of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Corporal Cesar Velazquez; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Corporal Velazquez as an expression of our sympathy.
