SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Corporal Cesar Velazquez, who passed away
4May 15, 2009; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez served his community as a
6consultant and a teacher prior to becoming a policeman; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez joined the Hainesville Police
8Department in July of 2008 after serving with the Skokie Police
9Department for over 20 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez was assigned to the
11Metropolitan Enforcement Group, (NEMEG) undercover narcotics
12unit for two years while serving in the Skokie Police
13Department, as well as serving as a detective, and then as the
14department's first DARE Officer; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez died in the line of duty just
16days before his retirement; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez leaves behind a wife and two
18children; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez dedicated and gave his life to

1protecting and serving the people of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
4his family and friends, the passing of Corporal Cesar
5Velazquez; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Corporal Velazquez as an expression
8of our sympathy.
