SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sharon L. Broughton of Springfield, who passed away on March 8, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was born on March 20, 1933, in Jacksonville; her parents were Clarence and Eileen Roper Alderman; she married Donald D. Broughton on July 15, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1951; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton served as the Office Manager for P.H. Broughton & Sons for 20 years until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was the first female President of the Illinois Quarter Horse Association, serving from 1986 to 1988 and from 1992 to 1998; she was a member of the Garden Club in Venice, Florida and volunteered for many individuals and organizations, including Illinois State Senator Larry Bomke and the Sangamon County Republican Women; she taught horse and pony riding in Val-e-Vue and was an active board member of the West Sangamon Republican Club; her favorite activity of the Club was the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which she founded; she also enjoyed her vacation home in Florida with her family; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Alderman and Eileen McCune; her step-father, Carl McCune; her grandparents; and her many aunts and uncles; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton is survived by her husband; her children; Denise (Chris) Harney, Pamela (Doug) Barringer, Donald (Debbie) Broughton II, Gary (Mary) Broughton, Phillip Broughton, and Jennifer Broughton; her grandchildren, Breanne Harney, Emily (Ryan) Thomas, Justin Barringer, Amber Broughton, Eric Broughton, Donald Broughton III, and Marissa (Justin) Graves; and her cousins, Charles (Karen) Butzback and Mary Don (Frank) Dundrea; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Sharon L. Broughton; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sharon Broughton as an expression of our sympathy.
