SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sharon L. Broughton of Springfield, who
4passed away on March 8, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was born on March 20, 1933, in
6Jacksonville; her parents were Clarence and Eileen Roper
7Alderman; she married Donald D. Broughton on July 15, 1951; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton graduated from Sacred Heart
9Academy in 1951; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton served as the Office Manager for
11P.H. Broughton & Sons for 20 years until her retirement; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was the first female President of
13the Illinois Quarter Horse Association, serving from 1986 to
141988 and from 1992 to 1998; she was a member of the Garden Club
15in Venice, Florida and volunteered for many individuals and
16organizations, including Illinois State Senator Larry Bomke
17and the Sangamon County Republican Women; she taught horse and
18pony riding in Val-e-Vue and was an active board member of the
19West Sangamon Republican Club; her favorite activity of the
20Club was the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which she founded; she
21also enjoyed her vacation home in Florida with her family; and

1    WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was preceded in death by her
2parents, Clarence Alderman and Eileen McCune; her step-father,
3Carl McCune; her grandparents; and her many aunts and uncles;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton is survived by her husband; her
6children; Denise (Chris) Harney, Pamela (Doug) Barringer,
7Donald (Debbie) Broughton II, Gary (Mary) Broughton, Phillip
8Broughton, and Jennifer Broughton; her grandchildren, Breanne
9Harney, Emily (Ryan) Thomas, Justin Barringer, Amber
10Broughton, Eric Broughton, Donald Broughton III, and Marissa
11(Justin) Graves; and her cousins, Charles (Karen) Butzback and
12Mary Don (Frank) Dundrea; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15her family and friends, the passing of Sharon L. Broughton; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Sharon Broughton as an expression of
19our sympathy.
