SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Helen Heier of Vernon Hills, who passed away on November 26, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Helen Heier was born in Kansas City on December 6, 1924, to Orpha Chrisman; she married James Heier; and

WHEREAS, Helen Heier was active in the community, organizing the Vernon Hills Fishing Derby for over 35 years; the tournament was later named in her honor; she was known as the "lunch lady" at Hawthorn Middle School, where she worked for 19 years; and

WHEREAS, Helen Heier honored this country's veterans and firmly believed in treating them as the heroes that they are; she loved watching basketball games and could hold conversations with the most devoted fans; she was a trivia mastermind and could regularly outsmart the Jeopardy champions; and

WHEREAS, Helen Heier was preceded in death by her mother, Orpha Chrisman and her daughter, Darlene (the late Clair) Rairigh; and

WHEREAS, Helen Heier is survived by her husband of 67 years, James; her children, Steven (Barbara), Richard (Patricia), and Diana; and her 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Helen Heier, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Helen Heier as expression of our sincere condolences.
