HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Michael J. Ellis on the occasion of his retirement as a Superintendent with the Illinois Department of Corrections on September 29, 2011, after 32 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his 32-year career, Michael Ellis was promoted by merit numerous times, ascending the ranks to serve as sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and major before becoming superintendent, where he remained until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Michael Ellis touched the lives of many individuals in a positive manner in an effort to provide the supervision, guidance, and meaningful mentoring needed for them to become productive citizens; and

WHEREAS, Michael Ellis was well regarded within the Illinois Department of Corrections for his outstanding knowledge of its operations and his great dedication and productivity; he was the recipient of a citation from the Department for a total of thirty years of perfect attendance; and

WHEREAS, Michael Ellis is a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in East St. Louis; and

WHEREAS, Michael Ellis is married to Ruth Allen-Ellis; he has 3 sons, one step-daughter, and 4 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Michael J. Ellis on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Michael Ellis as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
