HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ann Ford on her 70th birthday, July 26, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born in Indiana; her work in the field of independent living has taken her from Massachusetts to Illinois, where she currently resides in Springfield and serves as the Executive Director of the Illinois Network of Centers for Independent Living; and

WHEREAS, She has a Bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago; she began her career in 1967 at the National Spinal Cord Injury Association; she was the first director of the Peoria Center for Independent Living; she later moved to Glen Ellyn and founded the DuPage Center for Independent Living; and

WHEREAS, In her work she has drafted legislation, served on the Governor's Disability Services Advisory Committee, the Advisory Committee for the Health Benefits of Workers with Disabilities, and other councils and advisory groups; and

WHEREAS, She is considered one of the leading authorities on disability rights in the State of Illinois and the Midwest region; and

WHEREAS, Fittingly, her birthday is the same day that the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ann Ford on this momentous occasion and wish her continued happiness and good health for years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ann Ford as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
