HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Windy City Warriors on their impressive season; and

WHEREAS, The Windy City Warriors, fresh off their 6th unprecedented Illinois High School Association Wheelchair Basketball State Title, wrapped up their season ranked 8th out of 32 teams competing at the national tournament; playing at the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Championship Tournament in Denver, Colorado, from April 7-10th, the team got the opportunity to go up against some strong competition; and

WHEREAS, The Warriors started with a win against the Long Island Lightening; they went on to lose games against the Nebraska Red Dawgs (the eventual 1st place team), Utah Jr. Wheeling Jazz by 1 point, and the Rancho Renegades on a buzzer beater at the end of overtime by 1 point; and

WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), the Windy City Warriors wheelchair basketball team dominated the IHSA tournament; the Warriors once again earned the right to be called the premier wheelchair basketball team in the State; and

WHEREAS, The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association serves more than 4,500 children and adults with special needs through over 1,500 programs, trips, and special events each year; additionally, WDSRA achieves over 15,000 participations through programs, inclusion services, community education, and fundraising events; WDSRA offers Special Olympics and adapted sports programs, dance; and art programs, as well as social clubs and camps; WDSRA is a nationally acclaimed, not-for-profit organization and a cooperative extension of 9 park districts, including Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton, and Winfield; and

WHEREAS, The Windy City Warriors are: Amy Chapman, Blake Harmet, Justin Harrison, Matt Molenkamp, Chris Murphy, Jonathan Ruiz, Nick Umek, Douglas Davison, Erik Todd, Kyle Gribble, Mary Kate Callahan, Jessica Lindsay, and Kyle Picchetti; they are led by Coaches Kevin Hosea and Brittany Luxton; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Windy City Warriors on their impressive season and wish them continued success for years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Windy City Warriors as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
