HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Windy City
4Warriors on their impressive season; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Windy City Warriors, fresh off their 6th
6unprecedented Illinois High School Association Wheelchair
7Basketball State Title, wrapped up their season ranked 8th out
8of 32 teams competing at the national tournament; playing at
9the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA)
10Championship Tournament in Denver, Colorado, from April
117-10th, the team got the opportunity to go up against some
12strong competition; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Warriors started with a win against the Long
14Island Lightening; they went on to lose games against the
15Nebraska Red Dawgs (the eventual 1st place team), Utah Jr.
16Wheeling Jazz by 1 point, and the Rancho Renegades on a buzzer
17beater at the end of overtime by 1 point; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Western DuPage Special
19Recreation Association (WDSRA), the Windy City Warriors
20wheelchair basketball team dominated the IHSA tournament; the
21Warriors once again earned the right to be called the premier
22wheelchair basketball team in the State; and

1    WHEREAS, The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association
2serves more than 4,500 children and adults with special needs
3through over 1,500 programs, trips, and special events each
4year; additionally, WDSRA achieves over 15,000 participations
5through programs, inclusion services, community education, and
6fundraising events; WDSRA offers Special Olympics and adapted
7sports programs, dance; and art programs, as well as social
8clubs and camps; WDSRA is a nationally acclaimed,
9not-for-profit organization and a cooperative extension of 9
10park districts, including Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen
11Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago,
12Wheaton, and Winfield; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Windy City Warriors are: Amy Chapman, Blake
14Harmet, Justin Harrison, Matt Molenkamp, Chris Murphy,
15Jonathan Ruiz, Nick Umek, Douglas Davison, Erik Todd, Kyle
16Gribble, Mary Kate Callahan, Jessica Lindsay, and Kyle
17Picchetti; they are led by Coaches Kevin Hosea and Brittany
18Luxton; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we congratulate the Windy City Warriors on their impressive
22season and wish them continued success for years to come; and
23be it further
