HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize a century of publication of the Ramsey News-Journal by the Mueller family; and

WHEREAS, The Ramsey News-Journal was purchased by the Mueller Family on April 15, 1912, by Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mueller; and

WHEREAS, The Ramsey News-Journal has been a family affair since 1912; Charles Mueller, the first-born son of Julius and Edna, worked with his father until 1933; Robert Julius Mueller, the second son, joined the paper permanently upon the departure of Charles; at times, both Edna and Evelyn (Robert's wife) worked at the News-Journal; in 1965, J. H. was presented with the Golden Make-Up Rule for more than 50 years of service to the public at the centennial meeting of the Illinois Press Association in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, The Ramsey News-Journal is in its third location-a 2 story building on Superior Street, which was purchased in early 1940; prior to that it was located at the corner of West 5th and South Front Street, just east of the I.C.R.R. in the east room of the People's State Bank Building; its original location burned in 1905; and

WHEREAS, The current building, known as the "Odd Fellows" building, built in 1894, at one time housed numerous businesses, but is now entirely Mueller owned; the second floor was purchased in 1962 at the very first Community Sale; and

WHEREAS, The Ramsey News-Journal is currently under the guidance of third-generation publisher, B.J. Mueller; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Mueller family on owning and operating the Ramsey News-Journal for the past 100 years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That s suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Mueller family as an expression of our esteem and respect.
