HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of our friend and former colleague, Dr. Redd F. Griffin of Oak Park, who passed away on November 20, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was born and raised in Oak Park; he earned his master's degree in economics-marketing from Roosevelt University and his doctorate in education from Loyola University in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a former reporter for the City News Bureau of Chicago and served on the production staff of WTTW 11; throughout his life, he helped to promote the understanding and appreciation of cultural history and communications through courses, lectures, readers theater, audiovisual and print media, exhibits, and the Internet; and

WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served as a professor at Triton College and Hines VA Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a founding member of Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park; he served as the Foundation's ambassador to the Chicago area, speaking at libraries, fellowship groups, and meetings across the suburbs; and

WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served the people as the State Representative of the 21st District during the 82nd General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a member of the boards and advisory boards with various organizations, including WTTW 11, the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, the International Press Club of Chicago, and the Illinois State Historical Society; he also served on the board of his alma mater, Shimer College; and

WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was the beloved husband of Mary Jo; the loving father of Daniel (Sarah) and Timothy Griffin; the cherished grandfather of James and Reid Griffin; and the dear brother of Michael Griffin and Marnie (Joseph) Fretty; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Redd F. Griffin; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Redd Griffin as an expression of our sympathy.
