HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of our
4friend and former colleague, Dr. Redd F. Griffin of Oak Park,
5who passed away on November 20, 2012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was born and raised in Oak Park; he
7earned his master's degree in economics-marketing from
8Roosevelt University and his doctorate in education from Loyola
9University in Chicago; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a former reporter for the City
11News Bureau of Chicago and served on the production staff of
12WTTW 11; throughout his life, he helped to promote the
13understanding and appreciation of cultural history and
14communications through courses, lectures, readers theater,
15audiovisual and print media, exhibits, and the Internet; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served as a professor at Triton
17College and Hines VA Hospital; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a founding member of Ernest
19Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park; he served as the Foundation's
20ambassador to the Chicago area, speaking at libraries,
21fellowship groups, and meetings across the suburbs; and

1    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served the people as the State
2Representative of the 21st District during the 82nd General
3Assembly; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a member of the boards and
5advisory boards with various organizations, including WTTW 11,
6the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, the International
7Press Club of Chicago, and the Illinois State Historical
8Society; he also served on the board of his alma mater, Shimer
9College; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was the beloved husband of Mary Jo;
11the loving father of Daniel (Sarah) and Timothy Griffin; the
12cherished grandfather of James and Reid Griffin; and the dear
13brother of Michael Griffin and Marnie (Joseph) Fretty;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr.
18Redd F. Griffin; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Redd Griffin as an expression of our
21sympathy.
