SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Salvatore DiCarlo of Virden, who
4passed away on May 24, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo was born in Altofonte, Sicily,
6Italy on July 25, 1949; he came to the United States and
7married Vita DiCarlo in January 1976; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo and Vita opened DiCarlo's Pizza
9in 1976; through their pizzeria, he brought his love for food
10and good company to the community over the last 47 years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo's first love was his beautiful
12home of Sicily, Italy, with the crystal blue waters of the
13Mediterranean Sea, sandy beaches, mountains, and narrow
14streets leading to beautiful small towns; he could often be
15found at the piazza outside a café, enjoying a coffee or a few
16scoops of gelato; he relished all gelato flavors, but his
17favorites were zuppa inglese, hazelnut, strawberry, and lemon;
18he loved visiting Sicily with his family, especially when he
19could show la bella Sicilia, the beautiful Sicily, to those
20visiting for the first time; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo spent hours with his

1grandchildren, laughing, playing, and chasing them in circles
2around the house; he taught each one of them how to make pizza
3as soon as they were old enough to stand on a stool; he may
4have been 73 years old, but he was always a child at heart and
5his grandchildren loved every second they had with their
6"Nonno"; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo loved being in a kitchen,
8cooking delicious food to enjoy with his family and friends;
9he never met a stranger and treated everyone like family; he
10loved to laugh, finding joy in almost anything; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo was preceded in death by his
12parents; two brothers; and two sisters; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo is survived his children, Carlo
14(Kate), Anna Maria (Francesco) Lentini, and Josephine (Lance)
15Hickey; his grandchildren, Salvatore, Antonino, Pietro, Luisa,
16Anthony, Cristina, and Lorenzo; and numerous nieces and
17nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Salvatore DiCarlo and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
22further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Salvatore DiCarlo as an expression
3of our deepest sympathy.
