SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James William Madden of Oak Park, who passed away on February 2, 2023 at the age of 77; and

WHEREAS, James Madden was born on November 7, 1945 to Joe and Margaret Madden; and

WHEREAS, James Madden was raised in River Forest and attended St. Luke School and Fenwick High School; and

WHEREAS, James Madden earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in history at Marquette University; and

WHEREAS, James Madden married Leslye Madden, and they had four children, John, Olivia, Lara, and Maria Grace; and

WHEREAS, James Madden worked as a reporter, a social worker, and a commodities broker before embarking on a 30-year career as an investigator with the Cook County Public Defender's Office; and

WHEREAS, James Madden worked diligently in a profession dealing with the struggles of humanity, yet he remained affable, optimistic, and sensitive to the beauty in the world; and

WHEREAS, James Madden was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Grace, who passed away at a young age; and

WHEREAS, James Madden is survived by his wife, Leslye; his son, John; his daughters, Olivia and Lara; his brother, John; his sisters, Mary and Maggie; and his grandchildren, Jack and Will; and

WHEREAS, James Madden will be missed by his family, many friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James William Madden and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Madden as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
