SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard Smith "Dick" Applegate of Peoria, who passed away on July 16, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born on May 8, 1944, in Pekin, to H. Smith and Mary Shane Applegate; he married Paula Maddox in Peoria on October 22, 1983; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from Richwoods High School in Peoria in 1962 and received his Bachelor of Music Education from Bradley University in 1966; he served as a music educator and choral director in central Illinois schools, most recently Peoria School District 150, retiring in 2005; and

WHEREAS, For the past 26 years, he served as choir director for the Universalist Unitarian Church in Peoria; he was recognized throughout the area as a skilled performer on five-string banjo and also taught a number of private students; he was a founding member of Applegate and Company and a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional music fraternity; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Richard Applegate is survived by his wife, Paula; his two sisters, Carol Terry and Nancy (Michael) Bearce; his brother, Robert (Lisle) Applegate; and his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Richard Applegate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Applegate as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
