SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard Smith "Dick" Applegate of Peoria,
4who passed away on July 16, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on May 8, 1944, in Pekin, to H. Smith
6and Mary Shane Applegate; he married Paula Maddox in Peoria on
7October 22, 1983; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He graduated from Richwoods High School in Peoria
9in 1962 and received his Bachelor of Music Education from
10Bradley University in 1966; he served as a music educator and
11choral director in central Illinois schools, most recently
12Peoria School District 150, retiring in 2005; and
 
13    WHEREAS, For the past 26 years, he served as choir director
14for the Universalist Unitarian Church in Peoria; he was
15recognized throughout the area as a skilled performer on
16five-string banjo and also taught a number of private students;
17he was a founding member of Applegate and Company and a member
18of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional music fraternity; and
 
19    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Richard Applegate is survived by his wife, Paula;

1his two sisters, Carol Terry and Nancy (Michael) Bearce; his
2brother, Robert (Lisle) Applegate; and his nieces, nephews,
3great-nieces, and great-nephews; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6his family and friends, the passing of Richard Applegate; and
7be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Richard Applegate as a symbol of our
10sincere sympathy.
