SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Terry Tyler Martinez of Collinsville, who passed away on March 25, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Martinez was born September 4, 1946, in Linton, Indiana; and

WHEREAS, He was a born educator and encouraged and influenced generations of professional pharmacists, nurses, and dentists; he loved the outdoors and enjoyed biking, camping, swimming, ice skating, and hiking; and he enjoyed planning trips and traveling with his family, especially to Hawaii, the National Parks, British Columbia, and the Caribbean; and

WHEREAS, He was a board-certified toxicologist with Toxicologic Associates and served as an expert witness for court cases throughout the Midwest; he was a professor of pharmacology and toxicology for nearly thirty years, most recently teaching at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and SIU Edwardsville; he worked with poison control centers for more than ten years; and

WHEREAS, He earned degrees from Purdue University and the University of British Columbia; he was a member of several professional organizations, including the Western Pharmacology Society for which he was instrumental in mentoring students; he was also a veteran who served in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick "Fred" Tyler Martinez; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Ruth, nee Sonsini, Martinez; his mother, Iva Lorene, nee Frye, Martinez; his daughter, Sarah Irene (Christopher "Chip") Peila; his daughter, Laura Elizabeth; his son, Daniel Noah; his grandchildren, Marina Keale Peila and Benjamin Tosh Peila; his uncle, Everett "Bub" Frye; and his cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Terry Martinez; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Terry Martinez as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
