SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Dr. Terry Tyler Martinez of Collinsville,
4 who passed away on March 25, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Martinez was born September 4, 1946, in
6 Linton, Indiana; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He was a born educator and encouraged and
8 influenced generations of professional pharmacists, nurses,
9 and dentists; he loved the outdoors and enjoyed biking,
10 camping, swimming, ice skating, and hiking; and he enjoyed
11 planning trips and traveling with his family, especially to
12 Hawaii, the National Parks, British Columbia, and the
13 Caribbean; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was a board-certified toxicologist with
15 Toxicologic Associates and served as an expert witness for
16 court cases throughout the Midwest; he was a professor of
17 pharmacology and toxicology for nearly thirty years, most
18 recently teaching at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and SIU
19 Edwardsville; he worked with poison control centers for more
20 than ten years; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He earned degrees from Purdue University and the

1 University of British Columbia; he was a member of several
2 professional organizations, including the Western Pharmacology
3 Society for which he was instrumental in mentoring students; he
4 was also a veteran who served in the United States Army; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick
6 "Fred" Tyler Martinez; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Dr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Ruth, nee
8 Sonsini, Martinez; his mother, Iva Lorene, nee Frye, Martinez;
9 his daughter, Sarah Irene (Christopher "Chip") Peila; his
10 daughter, Laura Elizabeth; his son, Daniel Noah; his
11 grandchildren, Marina Keale Peila and Benjamin Tosh Peila; his
12 uncle, Everett "Bub" Frye; and his cousins; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Terry Martinez; and
16 be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Dr. Terry Martinez as a symbol of
19 our sincere sympathy.
