SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Eloise Cockrum, nee Seymour, of Belleville, who passed away on February 19, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was born on March 10, 1920, in Benton; her parents were John Floyd "Happy" Seymour and Hettie Austin Seymour; she married George Haskell Cockrum in 1940; and

WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was well known as a gifted pianist, writer, and teacher; she graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale at the age of 50; she served her community as a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star; she taught Sunday school at the Sesser First Baptist Church; she was an advertising writer and buyer at the Krupnick Advertising Agency in St. Louis; she also managed a dairy farm and apple orchard in Sesser for 70 years with her husband; and

WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was preceded in death by her husband; her son, John Seymour Cockrum; her parents; her sister, Helen Faye Riddle (Jack); and her brother, John Seymour (Lois); and

WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum and her husband were the parents of Brenda Faye Cockrum and Georgia Jean Cockrum Costello; her most cherished moments were spent with her grandchildren, Holly Jean Croak Midgett (James), Jerry Francis Costello II (Lori), Gina Maria Costello Terschluce (Steve), and John Patrick Costello (Lindsay); she took great pride in her great-grandchildren, Mary Caitlin Winston, Wyatt Luke Winston, John "Jay" Maximillian Sinovic, Jerry Francis Costello III, Victoria Jean Costello, Austin Patrick Keen, Georgia Danielle Costello, Emmajean Faye Hearty, Brenna Elizabeth Hearty, Rorey Patrick Keen, and Ireland Maureen Keen; she is survived by her brother, Frank Seymour (Elaine); and her nieces, nephews, and cousins, Phillip Riddle, Pam and Mark Nyman, Mary Mills, Debbie and Terry Griffith, Pat Lawwill, Jake Seymour, Steve and Jane Stanley, and Judy Costello; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mary Eloise Cockrum; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Cockrum as an expression of our sympathy.
