SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Mary Eloise Cockrum, nee Seymour, of
4 Belleville, who passed away on February 19, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was born on March 10, 1920, in
6 Benton; her parents were John Floyd "Happy" Seymour and Hettie
7 Austin Seymour; she married George Haskell Cockrum in 1940; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was well known as a gifted pianist,
9 writer, and teacher; she graduated from Southern Illinois
10 University in Carbondale at the age of 50; she served her
11 community as a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star; she taught
12 Sunday school at the Sesser First Baptist Church; she was an
13 advertising writer and buyer at the Krupnick Advertising Agency
14 in St. Louis; she also managed a dairy farm and apple orchard
15 in Sesser for 70 years with her husband; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was preceded in death by her husband;
17 her son, John Seymour Cockrum; her parents; her sister, Helen
18 Faye Riddle (Jack); and her brother, John Seymour (Lois); and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum and her husband were the parents of
20 Brenda Faye Cockrum and Georgia Jean Cockrum Costello; her most
21 cherished moments were spent with her grandchildren, Holly Jean

1 Croak Midgett (James), Jerry Francis Costello II (Lori), Gina
2 Maria Costello Terschluce (Steve), and John Patrick Costello
3 (Lindsay); she took great pride in her great-grandchildren,
4 Mary Caitlin Winston, Wyatt Luke Winston, John "Jay"
5 Maximillian Sinovic, Jerry Francis Costello III, Victoria Jean
6 Costello, Austin Patrick Keen, Georgia Danielle Costello,
7 Emmajean Faye Hearty, Brenna Elizabeth Hearty, Rorey Patrick
8 Keen, and Ireland Maureen Keen; she is survived by her brother,
9 Frank Seymour (Elaine); and her nieces, nephews, and cousins,
10 Phillip Riddle, Pam and Mark Nyman, Mary Mills, Debbie and
11 Terry Griffith, Pat Lawwill, Jake Seymour, Steve and Jane
12 Stanley, and Judy Costello; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 her family and friends, the passing of Mary Eloise Cockrum; and
16 be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Mary Cockrum as an expression of our
19 sympathy.
