HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mark Brockett, who passed away on August 30, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mark Brockett was born in March of 1984 in Joliet; he was a lifelong resident of the Joliet/Elwood area; he attended Elwood Grade School and graduated from Joliet Central High School in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Mark Brockett graduated from the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2006; during his time at UIS, he was a member of the newspaper staff and the recreation center staff and served as the play-by-play announcer during many of the university's home athletic events; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from UIS, Mark Brockett returned to his childhood home, where he worked for Lemont High School District #210 as an Assistant Intervention Advocate and Varsity Boys Volleyball Coach; he also worked as a summer counselor for the Joliet Park District; and

WHEREAS, Mark Brockett had a passion for all sports and sports teams, especially the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears; he also demonstrated his enthusiasm for football through his work with the radio station WJOL; and

WHEREAS, Mark Brockett's greatest loves in life were his family and his friends; he will always be remembered by his friends and family for the love, honor, loyalty, and respect he showed them each day; he will also be remembered for the positive impact he made on the people around him by always having a positive attitude and instilling that attitude not only in his friends and family, but also in the volleyball players and coaches at Lemont High School; and

WHEREAS, Mark Brockett was preceded in death by his father, Wendell D. Brockett; and

WHEREAS, Mark Brockett is survived by his loving mother, Kathleen (nee Rowan) Brockett; his brothers, James A. (Susana) Surkein, Hank R. Brockett, and Neal R. Brockett; his niece, Cynthia Surkein; his nephew, Dylan Surkein; his grandfather, Wendell G. Brockett; his 3 aunts and 1 uncle; and his numerous cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Mark Brockett; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mark Brockett as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
