SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul J. Stilwell of Godfrey, who passed away on May 8, 2008; and

WHEREAS, He was born April 15, 1917, in Alton, the son of Otto C. and Caroline (Hilt) Stilwell Sr.; on December 10, 1939, in Alton, he married the former Adeline M. Wilkening; and

WHEREAS, Paul Stilwell was a firefighter for the city of Alton for 31 years and the fire chief from 1970 until retiring in 1977; he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, was an expert carpenter, loved hunting, was an avid Cardinal fan, and enjoyed reading western novels; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alton; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ralph L., Otto C. Jr., and Walter H. Stilwell; and his sisters, Helen Smith, Dorothy Ford, and Gertrude Oettle; and

WHEREAS, Paul Stilwell is survived by his wife, Adeline; his two sons, Richard Paul Stilwell and his wife, Helen M., and Michael Stephen Stilwell and his girlfriend, Amanda Goon; his grandchildren, Caroline Soo Stilwell, Joseph Paul Stilwell, Jane E. Stilwell, and Evan M. Stilwell; his sister, Marian Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Paul J. Stilwell; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul J. Stilwell as a symbol of our sympathy.
