SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bernice V. Sally, who passed away on November 29, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally was born on November 22, 1926 in Chicago; her parents were Charlie and Ollie Thompson; and

WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally confessed a belief in Christ at an early age; she followed her parents to the Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, where the late Reverend Thomas Wade was pastor; she continued as a faithful member under Pastor Marvin E. Wiley; and

WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally was a part owner of S&R Income Tax Services in Maywood in the 1970's; and

WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally had many talents and was an entrepreneur; she was preceded in death by her son, Wayne McClain; and

WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally was known for her strength, determination, and tenacity, which was demonstrated in raising 12 children and numerous grandchildren; included among her grandchildren are Illinois State Senator Kimberly A. Lightford and her fellow Proviso East Class of 1986 classmates; and

WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally is survived by her children, Adrienne Oliver, Marvin McClain, Leon McClain, Sharolette West, Stephen McClain, Monica Sally, Leona Sally, Walter (Delolita) Sally, Jerome (Deborah) Sally, Tyrone Morris Sally, and Joanna (James) Glass; and her 44 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a strong, determined, and tenacious woman who would do anything for her family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Bernice V. Sally; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bernice V. Sally as an expression of our sympathy.
