SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Bernice V. Sally, who passed away on
4 November 29, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally was born on November 22, 1926 in
6 Chicago; her parents were Charlie and Ollie Thompson; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally confessed a belief in Christ at
8 an early age; she followed her parents to the Rock of Ages
9 Baptist Church in Maywood, where the late Reverend Thomas Wade
10 was pastor; she continued as a faithful member under Pastor
11 Marvin E. Wiley; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally was a part owner of S&R Income
13 Tax Services in Maywood in the 1970's; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally had many talents and was an
15 entrepreneur; she was preceded in death by her son, Wayne
16 McClain; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally was known for her strength,
18 determination, and tenacity, which was demonstrated in raising
19 12 children and numerous grandchildren; included among her
20 grandchildren are Illinois State Senator Kimberly A. Lightford

1 and her fellow Proviso East Class of 1986 classmates; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally is survived by her children,
3 Adrienne Oliver, Marvin McClain, Leon McClain, Sharolette
4 West, Stephen McClain, Monica Sally, Leona Sally, Walter
5 (Delolita) Sally, Jerome (Deborah) Sally, Tyrone Morris Sally,
6 and Joanna (James) Glass; and her 44 grandchildren, 38
7 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Bernice V. Sally will be remembered by all who
9 knew and loved her as a strong, determined, and tenacious woman
10 who would do anything for her family; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 her family and friends, the passing of Bernice V. Sally; and be
14 it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Bernice V. Sally as an expression of
17 our sympathy.
