SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

820 ILCS 320/3

Amends the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act. Defines "catastrophic injury", with regard to law enforcement officers only, as any injury causing an officer to qualify for a disability pension under specified provisions of the Illinois Pension Code. Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning employment.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Public Safety Employee Benefits Act is amended by changing Section 3 as follows:

Sec. 3. Definitions Definition. For the purposes of this Act: ,

The the term "firefighter" includes, without limitation, a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) who is a sworn member of a public fire department.

With regard to law enforcement officers only, "catastrophic injury" means any injury causing an officer to qualify for a disability pension under Section 3-114.1 of the Illinois Pension Code.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
