SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
820 ILCS 320/3

    Amends the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act. Defines "catastrophic injury", with regard to law enforcement officers only, as any injury causing an officer to qualify for a disability pension under specified provisions of the Illinois Pension Code. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning employment.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Public Safety Employee Benefits Act is
5 amended by changing Section 3 as follows:
 
6     (820 ILCS 320/3)
7     Sec. 3. Definitions Definition. For the purposes of this
8 Act: ,
9     The the term "firefighter" includes, without limitation, a
10 licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) who is a sworn
11 member of a public fire department.
12     With regard to law enforcement officers only,
13 "catastrophic injury" means any injury causing an officer to
14 qualify for a disability pension under Section 3-114.1 of the
15 Illinois Pension Code.

17     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18 becoming law.
