HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of John Booker Hunter, III, on February 17, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter was born on November 20, 1922, in Kankakee to John and Annie Sophia Hunter; he excelled in education and graduated from high school and Olivet Nazarene University with honors; he married Lou Anna (Cox) on February 6, 1947; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter valiantly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II; he was decorated for his heroism and actions in the European-African and Middle Eastern Theaters; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter had a strong work ethic; he was employed at various locations during his lifetime; he retired from Manteno Mental Health Center after 35 years of service; he was a microbiologist and served in other professional capacities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter enjoyed serving on the credit union board and served as president of AFSCME Local 1563; he also served as the president of the Franklin School (Millie Proegler) PTA; he was a member of the Caldwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church; and

WHEREAS, The passing of John Booker Hunter, III, has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 57 years, Lou Anna Cox; his sons, Alderman Steven J. Hunter and Andre A. Esq. (Sally) Hunter; his daughter, Jacquelyn M. Smith; his sister, Anna Collins; his brothers-in-law, Rev. Ben E. (Edna) Cox, Clifton Cox, and James Cox; his sisters-in-law, Ada Lee Johnson, Ruby Tate, Lois (Lee) Reid, Mary Cox, and Jacqueline Adkins; his grandchildren, Marjorie (Miki), LaKeisha, Kristen, Kira, Alex, Andre Jr., and Joi; his great-grandchild, Jazlyn; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Booker Hunter, III, and we extend our sincere condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mr. Hunter as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
