HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of John
4 Booker Hunter, III, on February 17, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter was born on November 20, 1922, in
6 Kankakee to John and Annie Sophia Hunter; he excelled in
7 education and graduated from high school and Olivet Nazarene
8 University with honors; he married Lou Anna (Cox) on February
9 6, 1947; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter valiantly served his country in the
11 U.S. Army during World War II; he was decorated for his heroism
12 and actions in the European-African and Middle Eastern
13 Theaters; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter had a strong work ethic; he was
15 employed at various locations during his lifetime; he retired
16 from Manteno Mental Health Center after 35 years of service; he
17 was a microbiologist and served in other professional
18 capacities; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mr. Hunter enjoyed serving on the credit union
20 board and served as president of AFSCME Local 1563; he also
21 served as the president of the Franklin School (Millie
22 Proegler) PTA; he was a member of the Caldwell Chapel A.M.E.
23 Zion Church; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of John Booker Hunter, III, has been
25 deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 57 years, Lou Anna
26 Cox; his sons, Alderman Steven J. Hunter and Andre A. Esq.
27 (Sally) Hunter; his daughter, Jacquelyn M. Smith; his sister,
28 Anna Collins; his brothers-in-law, Rev. Ben E. (Edna) Cox,
29 Clifton Cox, and James Cox; his sisters-in-law, Ada Lee
30 Johnson, Ruby Tate, Lois (Lee) Reid, Mary Cox, and Jacqueline

1 Adkins; his grandchildren, Marjorie (Miki), LaKeisha, Kristen,
2 Kira, Alex, Andre Jr., and Joi; his great-grandchild, Jazlyn;
3 and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore,
4 be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 mourn the passing of John Booker Hunter, III, and we extend our
8 sincere condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew
9 and loved him; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Mr. Hunter as an expression of our
12 deepest sympathy.
