SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Natalie Wellen on the occasion of her retirement
4as executive director of United Way South Central Illinois
5(UWSCI); and
 
6    WHEREAS, As executive director of UWSCI, Natalie Wellen
7oversaw the funding of 12 programs provided by 11 local
8partner agencies and was responsible for communities across
9nine counties, Washington, Marion, Jefferson, Franklin,
10Hamilton, Wayne, White, Edwards, and Wabash; during the
11COVID-19 pandemic, she organized several food distributions to
12help others through difficult times; under her leadership,
13UWSCI has assisted 11 hospitals, 14 food pantries, and 15
14local schools and provided utility assistance to six
15communities; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Natalie Wellen has belonged to a number of local
17organizations, including the Mt. Vernon Rotary Club, where she
18previously served as president, public relations director, and
19newsletter chair, and is a member of the Paul Harris Society;
20she has also served as a board member of Mt. Vernon Festivals,
21the promotions chair of Mt. Vernon Downtown Development, and
22the legislative director of the Mt. Vernon Business Women's
23Club; she has been a member of Giving Tuesday of Jefferson

1County and the community resource summit, and she was a
2founding member of the Women's Leadership Council; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Natalie Wellen has been recognized for her work
4and community involvement several times, including receiving
5the Outstanding Working Woman of Illinois Award by the
6Illinois Federation of Business Women's Clubs, Inc. and being
7named the 2021 Citizen of Year by the Jefferson County Chamber
8of Commerce; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Throughout her career and community, Natalie
10Wellen has continually proven herself to be a strong leader
11who remains active in civic and community service programs,
12selflessly gives her time to volunteer, and works extremely
13hard to make Jefferson County a better place; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Natalie Wellen will next assume the role of
15executive director of Lifeboat Alliance Homeless Shelter in
16Mt. Vernon; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
19Natalie Wellen on her retirement from United Way South Central
20Illinois (UWSCI), and we wish her continued success in her
21future endeavors; and be it further

2presented to Natalie Wellen as an expression of our esteem and
