SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gary M. Stimpson of Moline, who passed away on August 28, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Gary Stimpson was born in Gardner, Massachusetts to Thomas E. and Ruthmarie Lange Stimpson on January 8, 1949; he graduated from Alleman High School in 1967; he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War and was decorated for his service; he married Ann R. "Ricki" Miller at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Island on May 13, 1972; he received his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Augustana College in 1976; and

WHEREAS, Gary Stimpson worked for nearly 30 years at Nichols Aluminum in Davenport, Iowa, where he was one of the pioneers in the field of environmental engineering; he ended his career at Keokuk Steel Castings, retiring in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Gary Stimpson was a lifelong Catholic and parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Island; he enjoyed golfing, gardening, history, and politics, but most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Gary Stimpson was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Gary Stimpson is survived by his wife, Ricki; his daughters, Emily (Christopher) Chapman, Annmarie (Andy) Shrake, and Sara (Nathan) Weeks; his grandchildren, Emma, Lily, and Charlie Shrake, Jackson and Luke Weeks, and Tobias, Becket, and Eleanore Chapman; his siblings, Dennis J. (Linda) Stimpson, Theresa Stimpson, Mary Knox, Suzie (Dan) Budde, and Patty (Phil) Wilson; dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and many dear friends, including Charley and Mary Arnold, Ron and Kay Cabay, Kathleen Kennedy, and Larry and Linda Moore; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gary M. Stimpson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gary Stimpson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
