HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Reverend Leslie Sanders Sr. on the occasion of his 50 years of ministry and for his service as senior pastor to the Hope Presbyterian Church of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders is a native of Memphis, Tennessee; he attended St. Peters Baptist Church, where he received his call to ministry at the age of 18; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders began theological training at Christian Brothers College in Memphis; he continued his training at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, where he earned his Master of Theological Studies; he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the Mid-South Theological Seminary of Indiana; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders was recommended to the Hope Presbyterian Church of Chicago by Rev. Dr. Floyd N. Rhodes in February 1986; he formally became the church's stated supply pastor in March 1987; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders has demonstrated a dynamic style of preaching through his leadership and his abundance of energy and enthusiasm; under his guidance, the church has experienced rapid growth spiritually, numerically, and financially; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders has also remained committed to providing civic and community service; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Sanders is married to Lady Julie, and they have two sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Reverend Leslie Sanders Sr. on his 50 years of ministry and for his service as senior pastor to the Hope Presbyterian Church of Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rev. Sanders as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
