Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department shall cause to be established an easily accessible online database for the purpose of compiling research expertise, intellectual property, and ongoing sponsored research projects at academic institutions across the State.

Senate Committee Amendment No. 1
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Reinserts the provisions of the engrossed bill with changes. Provides that the Illinois Research Network is intended to provide broad and rapid access to information about intellectual property and technologies (instead of information about research capabilities and scholarly interests). Provides that the Department may make grants to Illinois universities (instead of "university faculty"). Removes language from the engrossed bill requiring university faculty and department heads to update the database.
