AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
represented in the General Assembly:
|
Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
|
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding |
Section 2705-625 as follows:

Sec. 2705-625. Safety improvements to State roads for |
pedestrians and cyclists. The Department shall develop a |
policy which ensures the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on |
roadways within this State. The policy shall provide that |
improvements will be made during routine maintenance and |
within a distance of 500 feet of the maintenance work to any |
State roads within a municipality to include, but not be |
limited to, high visibility signage, crosswalk improvements, |
curb bump outs, barrier protected bike lanes, and bus |
shelters. |
Beginning January 1, 2024, the Department shall provide a |
semi-annual report to the General Assembly on pedestrian and |
bicycle safety improvements on non-highway State routes that |
have been initiated, are in progress, or are recently |
completed. The Department shall provide the reports every June |
30th and January 1st thereafter.
