IDPH-ORAL HEALTH PROGRAM

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of
the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the
Department of Public Health, subject to appropriation, must develop
and implement oral cancer educational programs to (i) train health
care providers to screen patients for oral health cancers and properly
refer patients with oral health cancers and (ii) promote smoking
cessation with a primary focus on meeting the needs of underserved
populations. Lists components that must be included in the
educational programs. Requires the Department to establish a Prevent
Oral Cancer Pilot Program to screen, refer, and treat high-risk
underserved adults for whom dental services are not ordinarily
available. Allows the pilot program to be undertaken in conjunction
   with other cancer prevention programs.
