Short description: 
IDPH-HEPATITIS C PROGRAMS                                                  

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Creates the Hepatitis  C  Public  Awareness  Act.   Requires  the      
   Director  of Public Health to develop and implement a public education      
   and outreach program to raise awareness  of  the  hepatitis  C  virus.      
   Requires  the  Department  of  Public  Health  to  make  protocols and      
   guidelines on hepatitis C developed  by  the  National  Institutes  of      
   Health available for educating physicians and health professionals and      
   training  community  service  providers.   Requires  the  Director  of      
   Corrections  and  the  Director of Veterans' Affairs to report certain      
   information to the Department of  Public  Health  by  March  1,  2002.      
   Requires  the  Director  of Corrections to take measures in connection      
   with testing for and treating hepatitis C.                                  
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Deletes references to veterans  and  the  Director  of  Veterans'      
   Affairs.
