Short description:
SCH CD-COMPULSORY SCHOOL AGE

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
Amends the School Code. Lowers the compulsory school age by one
year, to 6 years of age (from 7 years). Effective July 1, 2001.
FISCAL NOTE (State Board of Education)
It is unclear how many children HB 795 would impact. There are
approximately 160.9 thousand children per grade in grades 1
through 3 and 147.6 thousand already in kindergarten. If 30% of
the 13.3 thousand difference is added to school rolls as a
result of lowering the compulsory attendance age and this is
multiplied by the general State aid foundation level of $4,425,
the cost would be approximately $17 million, not including any
costs for additional facilities that might be necessary.
STATE MANDATES NOTE (State Board of Education)
          Same as SBE fiscal note.
