Short description: 
INS COVER BIRTH CONTROL DRUGS                                              

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the State Employees  Group  Insurance  Act  of  1971,  the      
   Counties  Code,  the  Illinois  Municipal  Code,  the School Code, the      
   Illinois Insurance Code, the Health Maintenance Organization Act,  and      
   the  Voluntary  Health  Services Plans Act to provide that if a policy      
   provides coverage for prescription drugs approved by the Food and Drug      
   Administration for the treatment of impotency, then  the  policy  must      
   provide   coverage  for  prescription  drugs  for  the  prevention  of      
   pregnancy.                                                                  
          FISCAL NOTE (Department of Central Management Services)              
          Expansion of coverage to include pregnancy prevention drugs          
          would cost the State approximately $5.2 million annually.            
          FISCAL NOTE (Department of Insurance)                                
          HB 243 will have no fiscal impact on the Department.                 
          FISCAL NOTE, REVISED (Dept. of Central Management Services)          
          Expansion of coverage to include pregnancy prevention drugs          
          would cost an estimated $3.4 million annually for indemnity          
          plan and managed health care plan female enrollees in all four       
          health programs CMS administers. The cost just for the State         
          Employees Group Insurance Program is approximately $2.9              
          million.
