 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Marian Dorothea Tomell, who passed away on July 23,  2001;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS,  Marian  Dorothea Tomell was born on January 12,
 7    1929 in Wentworth, South Dakota to John and  Ida  Warns;  she
 8    met  Paul  Tomell  while  attending Valparaiso University and
 9    they were married on June 18, 1949; and

10        WHEREAS, Mrs. Tomell volunteered with the Red  Cross  for
11    25  years,  of  which  15  years  were served in the disaster
12    relief program assisting victims of fires, floods  and  other
13    disasters;  in  addition,  she volunteered at the Aurora Area
14    Interfaith Food Pantry for many years, served as an  election
15    judge for the Aurora Election Commission, and was a member of
16    the Valpo Guild; and

17        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Tomell  was  an active member of Emmanuel
18    Lutheran Church in Aurora; within her community, she and  her
19    husband  led  a  Bible class for adults with disabilities for
20    the past 17 years; at Emmanuel Lutheran  Church,  she  taught
21    Sunday  School,  Adult Bible Study, Vacation Bible School and
22    Home Bible Study; in addition, she volunteered at the  church
23    camp  at Quarryledge and Walcamp, assisting participants with
24    disabilities; and

25        WHEREAS, Mrs. Tomell was a member of the Altar and Flower
26    Guild and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League; she  served
27    on  the board of Lutheran Child and Family Services and was a
28    longtime volunteer at the Living Branches Thrift Shop in  St.
29    Charles for Valley Lutheran High School; and

30        WHEREAS,   Mrs.   Tomell  was  known  for  her  expansive
31    vegetable gardens and homemade jams; and

 1        WHEREAS, The passing of Marian Dorothea  Tomell  will  be
 2    deeply  felt  by  all  who knew and loved her, especially her
 3    husband of 52 years, Paul; her sons,  James  (wife,  Dorothy)
 4    Tomell,  David  (wife,  Renee)  Tomell,  Mark  (wife,  Karen)
 5    Tomell,  Daniel (wife, Laura) Tomell, Michael (wife, Deborah)
 6    Tomell, and Phillip (wife, Mary) Tomell; her sisters, Ann Moe
 7    and Ruth (husband, Elmer) Smith; her brothers, Marvin  (wife,
 8    Leona)  Warns,  Kenneth  (wife,  Mariea)  Warns,  and Phillip
 9    (wife, Carolyn) Warns;  her  sister-in-law,  Emily  (husband,
10    Wally)  Hartstirn;  her  brother-in-law,  Wesley Hookana; her
11    grandchildren,  Jessica  (husband,  C.J.)  Presto,   Jonathan
12    Tomell  and his mother, Patricia, Jason (wife, Deanna) Bundy,
13    Shelly (husband, P.J.) Bakken, Nathan (wife, Kristie)  Bundy,
14    Drake Tomell, Joshua, Benjamin and Matthew Tomell, James Kane
15    and  Simon  Tomell;  her 10 great-grandchildren; her numerous
16    nieces, nephews; and her many special friends; therefore,  be
17    it

18        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
19    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
20    all  her  knew  her,  the  death of Marian Dorothea Tomell of
21    Aurora, Illinois; and be it further

22        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
23    presented  to  the  family of Marian Dorothea Tomell with our
24    sincere condolences.
