 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Dr. Fred Kimbrough, who passed away on April 12, 2001; and

 5        WHEREAS, Dr. Fred Howard Kimbrough was born on  July  24,
 6    1931  in Durant, Mississippi to Bertha and Zachary Kimbrough;
 7    he was the proud graduate of East Saint Louis School District
 8    189; and

 9        WHEREAS, Upon completion  of his service  in  the  United
10    States  Army,  Dr. Kimbrough returned to East Saint Louis and
11    began working at Jefferson Barracks Hospital; and

12        WHEREAS, Dr. Kimbrough completed his B.A.  in  Fine  Arts
13    from  Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in June of
14    1965 and his M.S. in  Educational  Administration  in  August
15    1969;   he   completed   his   Ph.D   in   Higher   Education
16    Administration from Saint Louis University in 1972; and

17        WHEREAS,  Dr. Kimbrough served as an educator at his Alma
18    Mater, Lincoln Sr. High School,  where  he  demanded  nothing
19    less  than  excellence  from his students, Cross Country, and
20    baseball teams; he continued his works in education at  Saint
21    Louis  University  where  he  played  a  major  role  in  the
22    development  and  planning  of State Community College; after
23    retiring from the education field, he  worked  as  a  Project
24    Manager and researcher with Minority Contractors; and

25        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Kimbrough  was  the  recipient of numerous
26    awards and honors, however, he relished the championships  he
27    won  with  his  son  as  coach  in the Jackie Robinson Khoury
28    League; and

29        WHEREAS, Dr.  Kimbrough  was  an  active  member  of  the
30    community; his involvement spans back to the 1960s during the
31    Civil  Rights  era  where he fought injustice in the city; he

 1    was a member of  Friendship  Missionary  Baptist  Church  and
 2    Wesley Bethel United Methodist Church; and

 3        WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Fred Howard Kimbrough will be
 4    deeply  felt  by  all  who knew and loved him, especially his
 5    wife, Corliss Jordan Kimbrough;  his  daughters,  Angelia  D.
 6    Butler, Patresa (husband, Martez) Williams, and Robin Harris;
 7    his son, Fred (wife, Valentina) Kimbrough; his grandchildren,
 8    Christopher D. Howard Butler, Valentia Kimbrough, and Brandon
 9    and Bryant Williams; his special friends, Leroy Howell, Larry
10    Matthews,  and  Doreen  Hooseman; his aunts, Ida Stokes, Ruby
11    Kimbrough,  Maggie  Kimbrough,  and  Thelma  Kimbrough;   his
12    cousins,  his  Kappa  Alpha Psi Brothers; and his friends and
13    loved ones; therefore, be it

14        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
15    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16    all who knew him, the death of Dr. Fred Howard  Kimbrough  of
17    East Saint Louis, Illinois; and be it further

18        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
19    presented to the family of Dr. Fred Howard Kimbrough with our
20    sincere condolences.
