 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Owen N. Kane III, who passed away on January 22, 2001; and

 5        WHEREAS, Owen N. Kane III was born  in  1916  in  Wisner,
 6    Nebraska,  the  ninth  of  nine  children  to  Owen N. II and
 7    Elizabeth Kane; he graduated from  the  University  of  Notre
 8    Dame in 1938 and Harvard Business School in 1940; in 1941, he
 9    married the late Cecilia Fitzgerald; and

10        WHEREAS,  Following  World War II, during which he served
11    as a lieutenant in a  Naval  Air  Squadron,  he  started  his
12    professional  career  with  Firestone,  later joining Zweifel
13    Motors in Evanston, Illinois; and

14        WHEREAS, In 1953, Mr. Kane moved his family  to  the  Fox
15    Valley area where he opened his car business, Owen Kane Ford;
16    for  27  years  he was the president of Owen Kane Ford Sales,
17    Owen Kane Auto Center and Owen Kane Leasing of Aurora; and

18        WHEREAS, Owen  N.  Kane  III  took  great  pride  in  his
19    hometown  of Aurora by being active in numerous organizations
20    including the Aurora  Chamber  of  Commerce,  the  Holy  Name
21    Society, the Knights of Columbus, Aurora Country Club, Aurora
22    Notre  Dame  Club,  Aurora  Serra  Club,  and  as  a Board of
23    Director of the original St. Joseph Hospital; in addition, he
24    joined other community leaders in the founding of Rosary High
25    School; and

26        WHEREAS, Owen N. Kane III's considerable  pride  extended
27    to  his  family and his Irish Catholic heritage and faith; he
28    took great joy in the growth and success of his nine children
29    and victories by his beloved Fighting Irish  of  Notre  Dame;
30    and

31        WHEREAS,  The  passing of Owen N. Kane III will be deeply

 1    felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his  children,
 2    Sheila  (husband, Jim) Vertenten, Kathy Kane, Molly (husband,
 3    Jeff) Roberts, Jim (wife, Mary) Kane,  Owen  Kane  IV  (wife,
 4    Cindy  Klingbeil), Patti (husband, Jim) Root, Nancy (husband,
 5    David) Richards, and Kevin (wife,  Patti)  Kane;  his  twenty
 6    grandchildren;  his four great-grandchildren; and his sister,
 7    Lucille LaNoue; therefore, be it

 8        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
 9    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10    all who knew him, the death of Owen N. Kane  III  of  Aurora,
11    Illinois; and be it further

12        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
13    presented to the family of Owen N. Kane III with our  sincere
14    condolences.
