 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Marlin Landwehr of Elmhurst, Illinois, who recently passed
 5    away; and

 6        WHEREAS, Marlin Landwehr grew up in Northbrook and was  a
 7    graduate  of  the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign;
 8    and

 9        WHEREAS, Mr. Landwehr began his career in  the  newspaper
10    business  in  1939, as a reporter for the City News Bureau in
11    Chicago; he later took a job as a reporter  and  then  as  an
12    editor for the Garfieldian, a neighborhood weekly; and

13        WHEREAS,  In  1942  Mr. Landwehr joined the United States
14    Navy, serving during World War II; after  the  war  ended  he
15    returned to his position as an editor for the Garfieldian; in
16    the  1960s he took an editorial position overseeing more than
17    a dozen local weekly and twice-weekly newspapers owned by the
18    Southtown Economist; and

19        WHEREAS,  In  1978,  the  Chicago   Daily   News   ceased
20    publication  and the Southtown became a daily newspaper, with
21    Mr. Landwehr as its editor; using the editorial page he urged
22    the City of Chicago to invest in Midway Airport, helping  the
23    keep  the  airport  open  and  used  by the airlines; he also
24    encouraged the City of Chicago to  save  a  working  farm  at
25    111th Street and Pulaski Road, which was later developed as a
26    magnet  school,  the  Chicago  High  School  for Agricultural
27    Sciences; and

28        WHEREAS, The passing of Marlin Landwehr  will  be  deeply
29    felt  by  all  who  knew and loved him, especially his loving
30    wife, Carolyn; his sons, Carl and Jim; his daughter, Barbara;
31    his  sister,  Alice  Spreyer;  and  his  six   grandchildren;

 1    therefore, be it

 2        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
 3    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
 4    family and friends, the death of Marlin Landwehr of Elmhurst,
 5    Illinois; and be it further

 6        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 7    presented to the family of Marlin Landwehr.
