 1        AN ACT in relation to vehicles.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The  Illinois  Vehicle  Code  is  amended  by
 5    adding Section 3-653 as follows:

 6        (625 ILCS 5/3-653 new)
 7        Sec. 3-653.  Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics
 8    license plates.
 9        (a)  In  addition to any other special license plate, the
10    Secretary,  upon  receipt  of   all   applicable   fees   and
11    applications  made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of
12    State, may issue Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics
13    license plates to residents of Illinois who meet  eligibility
14    requirements  prescribed  by  the  Secretary  of  State.  The
15    special Emergency Medical Technicians  and  Paramedics  plate
16    issued  under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger
17    vehicles of the first division  and  motor  vehicles  of  the
18    second  division  weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates
19    issued under this  Section  shall  expire  according  to  the
20    staggered multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1
21    of this Code.
22        (b)  The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
23    wholly  within the discretion of the Secretary of State.  The
24    Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates  to
25    be issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance with
26    Section 3-405.1 of this Code.  The plates are not required to
27    designate  "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b)
28    of Section 3-412 of this Code.  The Secretary shall prescribe
29    the eligibility requirements and, in his or  her  discretion,
30    shall  approve  and  prescribe stickers or decals as provided
31    under Section 3-412.

 1        (c)  An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
 2    issuance in addition  to  the  applicable  registration  fee.
 3    This  additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of
 4    State Special  License  Plate  Fund.  For  each  registration
 5    renewal  period,  a  $2  fee,  in addition to the appropriate
 6    registration fee, shall be charged  and  shall  be  deposited
 7    into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
