1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the Illinois
3 House of Representatives that Gibson Area Hospital & Health
4 Services celebrated its 50th anniversary on November 20, 2002
5 and the hospital's Auxiliary also celebrated its 50th
6 anniversary; and
7 WHEREAS, Gibson Community Hospital opened on November 3,
8 1952; it was built with Hill-Burton federal monies and
9 tremendous individual and business support for the 26
10 townships it was originally to serve; it is the only hospital
11 in Ford County, serving over 20,000 rural and small town
12 households within a 25-mile radius of Gibson City; and
13 WHEREAS, The name was changed in 1998 to Gibson Area
14 Hospital & Health Services, reflecting the expanded service
15 area and the many additional ways the organization delivers
16 health in its area; and
17 WHEREAS, Over the years, upgrades have been made to
18 satisfy patient needs, physician needs, service upgrades and
19 government codes; recently, State grants provided Illinois
20 First funding for the surgery and radiology wing with
21 associated remodeling that took place in 2000, as well as
22 providing a new ambulance for the paramedic-level service,
23 and vans for the Health Express medical transportation
24 service run by Gibson City Telecare; and
25 WHEREAS, The hospital's Auxiliary is also celebrating 50
26 years of service; members helped sew curtains and provided
27 nursing aide services in the early days of the hospital; an
28 astounding 260 members perform more than 20 types of
29 volunteer service, saving the hospital many thousands of
30 dollars; in addition, the organization has raised tens of
31 thousands of dollars for hospital equipment and services;

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we commend the volunteers who comprise the Board of Directors
4 and Auxiliary of Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services for
5 working to ensure that quality health care is available in
6 the years to come and we congratulate them on their 50th
7 anniversary; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 delivered to the President of the Board of Directors, Jim
10 Hood, and the Auxiliary Co-Presidents, Brenda Arends and Ann
11 Spangler as an expression of our respect and esteem.
